I know, Snow Creek to Hemlock on the Dan isn’t the most exciting paddle, but the Fall Colors trip is more about enjoying time on the water and all the beauty Mother Nature has to offer on one of rivers.  And of course all the camaraderie both on and off the water. To that end this one was an A+!

We had a perfect day for our event with 18 paddlers and 2 non-paddlers.  Shuttle was run efficiently by cohorts Judy and Amy and we were on the river by about 11:30.  Air temps were in the 70’s and we got to enjoy the mild weather and those Carolina blue skies for the entire day.  This year’s trip was a week or so earlier than usual so the ‘colors’ were just starting to show but there were plenty of leaves drifting down to the river surface as we moseyed along.  The water was beautifully clear and at a level that offered several spots to surf, ferry and play a little.

Post paddle we had a potluck picnic at the little campground next to the public take out. Burgers and dogs on the grill, Joe’s infamous blueberry cobbler, baked beans and so much more!  If you’ve paddled that section before you know there are several flat sections so we all had worked up quite an appetite and put a major dent in all the food.  Maybe it all tasted better because our picnic spot was under the trees and in full view of the crystal clear Dan.  If you missed it, hope to see you  next year!
