Chatham County has given the Carolina Canoe Club permission to cut the tree at the U.S. 64 access on the Haw. This is the one that gets partially submerged when the river rises.

Jina Stamey, Chatham County assistant parks and recreation director, said the volunteer will need to sign a waiver since the tree is on county property. The club may need a couple of volunteers to help pull the tree out of the water to prevent it from becoming a river hazard downstream.
