Week of Rivers 2018

Welcome to WOR 2018!  The following is a guide to some of the events that have been set up this year, including clinics, night life, and a great opportunity to give back to the local community.

And remember: You MUST be a PAID member of the Carolina Canoe Club to participate in WOR. (Join the Carolina Canoe Club!)

Community Service Projects

In addition to our annual river cleanup, we will be doing a Community Service collection for 2 local organizations. We will be supporting the Blessing Box/Food Bank at Restoration House and the In Home Aid program for Seniors with the Swain County Health Department. See more below.

Scheduling a creeking trip even a few weeks in advance is always going to be a roll of the dice, but I hoped that fortune would favor the bold as I announced my intentions to paddle some natural flow creeks on one of my rare spring weekends off.  Despite the best efforts of rain dances, it became clear to me about ten days out that the forecast wasn't going to work in my favor.  The big rains fell in the mountains on the Sunday before the trip, and by the following weekend the creeks had dropped out.

I’ve seen this rapid before.

I’ve stood, trembling slightly, on these rocks and surveyed the length of whitewater before me, in an attempt to figure out how to avoid all those nasty little places where I don’t want to go but would inevitably end up.

Participants:  John McDonald, Amy Rae Fox, Kevin Kizer, Spencer Muse, Scott Gallinger, Dave Sink, Corinne Sink, Jo and Don Beyer

The Nantahala River was definitely the place to be this past Saturday as a small contingent of CCC paddlers met to enjoy a day on the river and participate in the first round of the 2011 Canoe Club Challenge slalom event.
