If you have not seen this, please take a moment and read this letter from the Executive Director of the American Canoe Association (ACA) responding to recent events – https://www.americancanoe.org/news/511138/Letter-from-the-ACA-Executive-Director-June-2020.htm Thanks, Rick Higgins, CCC President

The CCC membership and the Board had a Zoom meeting May 20  to discuss hosting WOR 2020. Led by President Rick Higgins with input from many board members, staff members, and general members we discussed the feasibility of hosting this event in a safe and prudent manner. Rick Steeves set up a voting "link" and a vote was taken. The vote was 48-2 to not host WOR 2020. I am very proud of the board, staff, and membership for such a strong statement.

We love our WNC community and the other 3 states that WOR typically involves. We value the relationships we have and are continuing to build with the communities.

The CCC Board of Directors is ready to decide on whether the CCC will host the 2020 Week of Rivers. The Board has been keenly focused the full picture of the pandemic. Not just the COVID-19 data but also guidelines from various organizations (State, CDC, ACA, Bryson City, Swain county), the potential impact on local healthcare where we paddle, social distancing challenges (campground bathhouse, morning meetings, shuttles), and other potential risks and liabilities to the club. Our ultimate responsibility is the health and safety of our club members.
