Sunday, July 1, 2012.  First Aid/CPR CCC Member, Peter Van Gieson will once again offer a combination of the Red Cross First Aid/CPR Clinic for adults and children at Week of Rivers on Sunday, July 1st after the morning meeting.The clinic will be approximately 4 hours long, from about 9:30 to 1:30 pm.  You may register for either the combined First Aid/CPR class or the CPR only class.  Cost for CPR/First Aid combined is $34. The cost for CPR only is $26. ACA Instructors who teach CCC Instructors may be eligible for reimbursement.  Peter will have four participant manuals that students can share, but you may purchase one for yourself for $8.50 at your local Red Cross chapter online. Participants must register for First Aid/CPR  by Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Monday, July 2, 2012. Trip Coordinator Skills Clinic, Girls-at-Play,  Join Founder and Director, Anna Levesque for a clinic to develop your trip leading skills.  Anna will lead a group of 10 intermediate paddlers (women and men) on a learning trip on the Nantahala River to help develop skills for coordinating successful river paddling days in the future.  Anna will also lead a yoga session on Monday morning at the Smoky Mountain Meadows Campground.  No Cost.  Please register for the Girls-at-Play Trip Coordinator Skills Clinic by Wednesday, June 20  If you have questions, please contact Donna Murphy donna_d0412@hotmail.com. Monday, July 2, 10:00am to 2:00pm, Combat Roll Clinic on the Ocoee  If you have a moderately successful roll and would like to build roll confidence in combat situations, join CCC member Bill Dement for an informal, self-help, interactive combat roll session on the Ocoee River (which has moderately warm water).    Bill will lead a small group of CCC’ers to a very friendly “Park And Play” spot, one that has a swimming pool behind it.  There, he will lead paddlers to flip on the wave, do squirts, back ferries, and other unexpected moves that cause unexpected flips.  Your moves and combat rolls will be recorded for your review that evening back at the camp.  PLEASE NOTE:  This workshop will take place early (hopefully to avoid the raft brigades) and does not involve running any of the Ocoee.  All participants should have developed moderately successful rolls.   Please register here. Monday evening–Tuesday afternoon, July 2-3, 2012.  ACA Essentials of River Safety.  Join ACA/ CCC Safety Instructors for this course which covers accident prevention and management, hazard recognition, self-rescue, boat-based rescue, wading, swimming, and basic rope rescue techniques. The first evening of the clinic is spent learning how to recognize hazards and avoid them, group management and other topics. The second day is spent on and in the water, learning more techniques and practicing material learned the prior evening.  Cost is $50. The Roll with Ken Kastorff, Endless River Adventures The creator of the C to C roll, Ken welcomes paddlers (Novice and up) whether you have a roll that needs to be tweaked or would like to learn the basics behind what makes a good roll. Run the Middle Ocoee with Jon Clark, NOC Paddling School Director  Brush up your paddling technique and learn new advanced moves on the Middle Ocoee with Jon.  This clinic is free to 12 – CCC members who are advanced boaters. This is not for those making their Personal First Descent. Thursday, July 5, 2012. Learn to Bellyak  with Adam Masters.   Join Adam for an introductory workshop on the Tuckaseegee River.  Bellyaks are provided!  A bellyak is a boat designed to be ridden on your belly. The boat features a planing hull, much like a kayak, that allows quick direction changes and floats the boater over and through the water. There are no straps or skirts to confine you to the boat. Thursday, July 5, 5-8:00pm, Slalom Training with Juliet Jacobsen Kastorff, Endless River Adventures.   How will training with Juliet on slalom gates help you improve your paddling?  Join paddlers (Novice and up) for a lesson with a world-class instructor on the gates of the Nantahala Rivers.  No Cost.  Meet Juliet at the lowest river left take-out on the Nantahala River.
