Haw cleanup: 4 ways to help the river
The Haw River Assembly's annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 16. Here are four ways Carolina Canoe Club members can help: Three by water and one by land.
Treat this like any other paddling trip, so pack your regular gear and boat. (But bring a canoe if you can paddle open boat.) And read the CCC River Clean-up Handbook for tips: https://www.carolinacanoeclub.org/files/25
Please let the coordinators know you want to be on their team as soon as possible. We need a head count to get enough bags, gloves and trash grabbers for everyone. Also, volunteers will be treated to lunch at Jamila Squires's house in Pittsboro.
Upper Haw: For those who want to pick up trash on flatwater, this is the trip for you. Paddlers will put in at the access just upstream of the Bynum Dam and will collect trash the lodges in the islands that stretch half a mile north.
