Here’s how you can save hemlocks on the Green
The Paddlers Hemlock Health Action Taskforce (PHHAT) needs volunteers to help with hemlock treatments on the Green River this fall.
These trees, which serve as an essential part of the riparian environment, are under siege by the hemlock woolly adelgid.
Each day will start at 10 a.m. and end around 4 p.m. Treatments will take place on the Lower Green (Class I-II) and the Upper Green (Class II-III). Here’s the schedule:
- Nov. 6th – Lower Green
- Nov. 8th – Upper Green or Lower Green based on interest. Please indicate which locations (or both) you would be interested in paddling.
- Nov. 15th – Lower Green
- Nov. 22nd – Upper Green
Participants must RSVP with Ben Chase at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org.
Following the Hemlock Restoration Initiative’s COVID-19 policy, there will be a limit on the number of volunteers who can attend each day, so volunteer spots will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
Please let Ben know if you can bring your own boat. There will be raft space available for those without boats.
