The Mayo and CCC Featured on PBS NC
-We had just finished up the chilly Mighty Mayo River Trip 2024 and Joe Berry turns up the heat for the next year’s paddle. Joe exclaimed, “You know next year is the 20thAnniversary of the MMRT. We have to go big, get 60 or more people here. We need to publicize it.”
As a result of Joe’s frosty announcement, the heat is turning up for MMRT 2025. PBS NC, our friendly, statewide public television is airing a short segment on the Mayo River, featuring on air comments by Joe, Jo Proia and Riverkeeper Steven Pulliam. Of course, Joe worked in the MMRT 2025 and how much the CCC does for the community. Of course, he worked in the history and tradition of the event. Of course, he asked for people to turn out in droves for the January 18, 2025 MMRT. That’s Joe, the promoter.
The five minute segment on the Mayo river will air on NC Weekend, as part of their Summer’s Coming episode. Debra Holt-Noel is hosting the show from the NC Zoo and another segment will feature glamping. Glamping, the Zoo, and MMRT all seem to fit together nicely.
Air times on PBS NC are Thursday, June 6, 9pm. Friday June 7, 5pm and Tuesday June 11, 7:30pm. The show will also be available on the PBS NC Youtube channel after initial airings.
But wait! There’s more. Steven Pulliam, the Dan Riverkeeper, Tara Martin and Lindsay Pegg of Rockingham County are hosting watch parties at Basecamp, a coffee shop/event center in Mayodan. Come out to socialize and spend a few minutes devotedly watching our paddling feats on the Mayo. Here are details on the showing and more information is available on Joe’s MMRT FB site.
