Upcoming Hemlock Treatment Days on the Green River

CCC Paddlers,

Please see the message below about the opportunity to help again with Hemlock treatment on the Green River nd contact Ben Chase (contact below) if you are interested in helping.

We’ve scheduled an April full of hemlock treatment days on the Green River! Thanks to all your help, we’ve nearly completed the first round of hemlock treatments on the Lower Green! Because of that, our emphasis will be on the Upper Green this season, but we’re still planning for 1-2 days on the Lower Green. The Upper Green is solid Class II whitewater with two Class III rapids. The Lower Green is Class I and II. Please indicate which section you would be comfortable paddling and whether you are planning to bring your own boat when you sign up. Please contact me to sign up at least four days before the date of the trip you are interested in. Space is limited, so signing up earlier is even better!

Dates:
Sunday, April 11 (Upper Green, only a few spots left)

Sunday, April 18 (most likely the Lower Green)

Friday, April 23 (section TBD based on the interest of those who are first to respond)

Sunday, April 25 (section TBD based on the interest of those who are first to respond)

If you are interested in helping us save some hemlocks on those days, please email me at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org with your email address and the best phone number to reach you in case something comes up at the last minute. As always, our ability to treat on those days is dependent on the weather and the water level released from the dam. Having complete contact information will help us keep you notified of any change in plans.

COVID information for in-person activities:
The Hemlock Restoration Initiative is grateful to be able to offer educational programs and volunteer events in this difficult time. Despite the lifting of restrictions, we acknowledge the risk that COVID-19 continues to pose to members of our community. To maintain the safety of our event participants and staff, HRI is limiting the number of participants at all events and requiring that all individuals follow HRI’s COVID-19 safety guidelines. This means that sign-ups will be held on a first-come-first-served basis. Anyone not following the guidelines on the day of the event will be asked to leave. Please review the COVID-19 safety guidelines on our website to ensure that you are comfortable following these guidelines. Please also let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend an event for which you are registered so that we may allow someone else to fill your spot.

You are receiving this email because you are on the Hemlock Restoration Initiative’s PHHAT volunteer email list. If you would like to change which emails you receive from us, you can update your interests through our mailing list or email volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org and ask to be removed from the list.

Thank you,
