Volunteers needed for at-risk youth program
Wolf Creek Adventures is getting ready to work with at-risk youths
for another summer introducing them to whitewater canoeing. If you are
not familiar with our program, visit our web site at
wolfcreekadventures.org <http://www.wolfcreekadventures.org>. We'll
begin in June with an event for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of WNC and
finish up in July with two events for the Eliada Homes, a mental health
treatment facility for adolscents. Each event will consist of three
sessions south of Asheville at Lake Julian where we will work on
learning canoe strokes and how to control a tandem canoe. The fourth
session will be a river trip on a section of the French Broad River.
Our instruction will be canoe based, so our needs at Lake Julian will be
for paddlers capable of controlling a canoe. Previous instructor
experience is not necessary since we will be working with beginning
paddlers. If you know how to paddle a canoe in a straight line, you can
be of help. Safety boaters is our greatest need on the river trips, so
kayakers are encouraged to join us there as well as canoers. The dates
and times for all of our upcoming sessions are listed below. Feel free
to e-mail me if you have any questions and let me know if you want to
help us out.
Thanks,
Peter
