WOR Clinics – 2013

CCC  WOR Clinics – Remember you must be a CCC member to attend WOR and register for a clinic at WOR so renew now so you don’t miss out!

 

Sunday June 30, 2013 Peter Van Giesson will be doing First Aid and/or CPR after the morning meeting.  $19 for one or the other, $27 for both.  He can take a maximum of 10 people.  Email Peter at whtwtroc@charter.net with questions.  If you are an active instructor, CCC will pay the cost for you – please contact Garrick Taylor – garrick.d.taylor@gmail.com for details on this option.

 

Sunday June 30, 2013 (evening) and Monday July 1, 2013 (all day) Essentials of River Safety.

 

Monday July 1, 2013 Anna Levesque from Girls at Play will be doing a playboating clinic on the NOC wave  (CLINIC IS FULL!).  Clinics will be 1 hour in length and she will work with 4 people per hour.  Times will be 11 am – noon, noon – 1 pm, and 1 – 2 pm.  The meeting place for this clinic will be at the wave.  This clinic will be free but you must have a Nantahala Gorge pass.  Anna will also lead Yoga in the morning at Smoky Mountain Meadows Campground.

 

Monday July 1, 2013Ken Kastorff from ERA will offer 3 mini clinics.  2 clinics for rolling and 1 clinic for Acing the falls.  The morning roll clinic (CLINIC IS FULL!) is from 9:30 am – noon, the evening roll clinic (CLINIC IS FULL!) is from 6 pm – 8:30 pm.  *Students should already have some semblance of a flatwater roll at a minimum*  Acing the falls clinic (CLINIC IS FULL!) from 1 – 3 pm.  These clinics will have a maximum of 10 participants.  Roll clinics will take place at Finger Lake, and the meeting place for the falls clinic will be Concrete Beach.  These clinics are free but you must have a Nantahala Gorge pass for the falls clinic.

 

 

Tuesday July 2, 2013 Wayne Dickert will be doing 2 mini clinics.  BOTH CLINICS ARE FULL!  The first clinic will be from 10 am – 1 pm and will be devoted to Intermediate Single Blade paddlers and they will work on skills according to the wishes of the people in the group.  The second clinic will be from 1 – 4 pm he will do a clinic on Working Lesser Wesser, focus will be different lines through the falls.  This clinic will be open to canoes or kayaks.  Each clinic will have a maximum of 5 participants.  Both groups should meet Wayne at the Parking lot above the falls.  These clinics are free but you must have a Nantahala Gorge pass.  BOTH CLINICS ARE FULL!

 

Tuesday July 2, 2013 Juliet Kastorff from ERA will be holding a rescue/safety refresher course at Town Tuck, Island Park in Bryson City from 4:30 – 7 pm.  This clinic will have a maximum of 30 participants.  Meet at Island Park.  This is a quick refresher on safety skills including but not limited to self-rescue, bow rescue, boat rescue and other safety skills.  Bring Boat, and paddling gear and any rescue gear you have.  Be prepared to swim!

 

Wednesday July 3, 2013 Jon Clark and Tosh Arwood from NOC will be doing 3 mini clinics 1 each for Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced paddlers.  Clinics will be free, clinics on the Nantahala require a Gorge pass. Clinics will be limited to a maximum of 8 paddlers each since there will be 2 instructors.

Clinic 1: 8:30 – 10:30 am   CLINIC IS FULL!  “Concepts of a bomber river roll” Novice – Intermediate, Lake Fontana, meet at Finger Lake Parking Lot.  CLINIC IS FULL!

Clinic 2: 11 am – 1 pm – CLINIC IS FULL!  “River Running like a Pro” Intermediate, meet at Surfers Rapid, paddle to NOC  CLINIC IS FULL!

Clinic 3: 3 pm – 5 pm – “Beyond the front surf” Spinning on a green wave.  Advanced Playboaters.  Meet at Surfers Rapid.

Participants will need to provide own transportation, boat, and gear. Each participant will need to sign an NOC waiver(minors need a parent to sign). Courses will be free of charge but gratuities are always appreciated if the service is exceptional.

 

Thursday July 4, 2013 Pirates on the Tuckaseegee.  Grab your best pirate gear and water guns and join the CCC as they take over the Tuck! (Note: this is not a clinic.  Just a WOR Event)
