Event Type

Section 3 1/2 of the Chattooga includes the lower portion of Section 3 and the upper portion of Section 4, hence the name. We start at Thrift’s Ferry and end at Woodall Shoals. It is very scenic and includes some challenging rapids. The Chattooga is a protected Wild and Scenic River, so the parking at the put in and takeout are both 1/4 mile straight distance away from the river. The footpath is not a straight line so is longer than 1/4 mile.

This stretch includes Bull Sluice (class 4 1/2) which can be portaged. The Bull is the single most difficult rapid on the run. If you are OK (meaning that you might occasionally swim, but usually don’t) on the Middle Ocoee, Upper Nantahala, Nolichucky, or Big Laurel; you should be OK. You can read the American Whitewater descriptions of sections 3 and 4. The Section 3 description has driving directions to both the put in and takeout.

Tentative meeting time of 11 am. I will set the meeting place once the crew is set but it will be either at rte 76 access parking or at the put in on Thrifts Ferry Road.  When you sign up send me an email address. Mine is lhthonus@gmail.com  The Chattooga is low-ish but I expect it to hold above minimum.
