Coordinators Choice: New River Gorge OR Ocoee
Depending on the water level we’ll paddle the New River Gorge from Cunard to Fayette Station. If the water level isn’t good we’ll run the Ocoee instead. We’ll make the call on venue a week prior to this trip.
If we run the NRG we’ll meet at the Fayette Station Take-Out at 9 AM both days. If we run the Ocoee we’ll meet in the large parking lot of the Middle Ocoee Put-In at 9 AM both days.
The New River Gorge has a number of class IV rapids with undercut hazards, and the Ocoee rates a solid class III. They are gorgeous runs which demand respect. We welcome those seeking their personal first descent of either river, but please come with the necessary skills to play. Very solid boat control and a bomber roll are required to have a fun and safe day on the river.
If we paddle the NRG we’ll stay at Ray’s Campground: https://www.rayscampground.com/. If we paddle the Ocoee instead we’ll stay at Thunder Rock Campground: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251938. Folks are welcome to join us to camp as well.
This trip is limited to 4 participants.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.
Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
