Introduction to Creeking (Intermediate Kayak)
Introduction to Creeking (Intermediate Kayak) Single-Day Clinic – Nov. 14, 2021
Location: Cheoah River, ELF release (Extra Low Flow).
The clinic will focus on techniques for creeking, such as reading water, group safety and creek etiquette, evaluating alternatives, river scouting, running rivers for the first time, and fun :-). You must have good boat control to allow you to catch small eddies and maneuver in tight spots. You should also need a reliable river roll and be comfortable with self rescue in low flow broach scenarios. Students should have solid experience and be comfortable on rivers like the Lower Haw in the 2,000 – 3,000 cfs range, Nanty Falls, Pigeon Gorge, or rivers of similar difficulty. Boat control is the key.
Instructor: Mark Thompson is an ACA L5 Kayak Instructor with many years of teaching experience. He is part of a continuation of a legacy of paddling instruction excellence by CCC, notably by way of paddling legend Joe Greiner.
Date: Sunday, November 14, 2021
Time: Time and location to meet will be announced later.

All participants in any Carolina Canoe Club (CCC) trip do so as common adventurers. The CCC or its individual members may coordinate paddling trips but no one is considered leader of a trip. As common adventurers, all participants take the responsibility for making their own decisions including, but not limited to, whether it is safe for them to participate on any particular water body, what equipment they need and use, the routes they may choose to paddle, whether their skill levels and abilities are adequate for the activity or whether climate and water conditions are appropriate for their participation. Participants are exclusively responsible for their own safety.
Individual coordinators for all CCC activities set requirements per their sole discretion. The CCC does not necessarily endorse or approve requirements set by coordinators.
