It’s a wrap for the 2nd Annual Fall Novice trip. There were 32 paddlers, 2 dogs and 1 cat! We did the Hanging Rock to Moratock Park section of the Dan River which features several nice rock formations as well as the old Iron Furnace at out take out. This is the section too, that the TPA did a river clean up on last weekend. Water level was low but it was clear and cool and otherwise conditions were great. These are a few comments heard along the way: “I feel my stress level just.. drop!
Novice Trip on the Dan! What a blast for new boaters to be able to paddle with experienced folks like Bob and Elliot, Vince, Nate,Joe, Dan, Lorraine, Ken. The group also had moptop Lucy as mascot. The morning rain and cool temps didn’t hurt the fun at all. Fourteen boaters with differing skill levels were generous with each other and offered helpful hints and instruction. “Keep your feet in the trough to surf correctly” and “what’s the difference between a C to C vs a Sweep roll?”.
Post Week of River Blues? OR maybe a wee bit of exhaustion? The Doctor ordered up a presciption of smiles on the Kibler Section. Filled today!
Dan River: Kibler Valley Power Plant to..”the church” steeple…
We had a few last minute cancelations but ended up with 4 paddlers. Jack & Paula Conrad, Pam Maynard, and Will Truslow. We took advantage of Saturday's Kibler release catching that water further downstream on the Dan River between the Snow Creek confluence and Hemlock Golf Club access on a beautiful day with nice temps and clear blue sky. Thanks Will for showing us the cave that some Confederate soldiers holed up in. This has to be one of the most beautiful sections of the Dan River.
