The Tuck trip, originally announced by Tom Womble, was hijacked by club members Miles (age 14) and Adah (11) Thompson, Colin Godwin (14), Brenda Randell (14), and Dylan (8) and Hadley (4) McPeake, perhaps as a warm up to WOR’s …
After waiting out a Thunderstorm at the put-in, 18 fantastic women paddled the Tuck Gorge for our first ever WOR Women’s Paddle! Paddlers: Donna Murphy, Amie Scott, Jen Stockwell, Randy DiCello, Judy Milakovich, Bethany Peel, Angela Wiseman, Suni Williams, Emma …

CCC volunteers found enough tires for two cars, enough plastic bottles to open a recycling center and enough sandals, boots and flip-flops to open a shoe store during this year's cleanup on the Tuckasegee where the river empties into Fontana Lake.
Instead of heading for a river on a hot July morning, 24 paddlers decided to tackle a raft of trash about the size of a football field. Volunteers hauled in 150 bags of trash, eight tires, one ottoman, one bowling ball and a very large icemaker.
Trip Report: Tuckasegee Gorge (Dillsoboro to Barkers’ Creek), Saturday, June 14, 2014
Saturday on the Tuck, we had beautiful weather: sunny and hot! Ahh, summer! We had a little bit extra water from rain in the watershed the night before, for a water level of 1000 cfs, enough to pad out the boney sections, but not enough to make the river too pushy for novices. Just right.
I recently rejoined the the CCC and participated in the youth paddling clinics with my 11 year old nephew. My previous CCC experience spanned the late ’80s and 90’s during which I had the privilege to participate in various clinics, great trips and many memorable WORs. My compliements to Greg Runion and Jeff Deny for their professional and patient work with the eight students in the novice clinic. Their teaching style and one on one demonstrations of technique for each student created an enthusiasm for kayaking that was clearly evident in the smiles on each student.
