ELF Run Cheoah
ELF Run Cheoah
As promised at our first tent meeting for Week of Rivers the Cheoah ELF run took place on Tuesday, July 5th with a group of 20 paddlers. Luckily for us first timers there was a small group of those who had "elfed" before. Mark gathered the group and explained that this would be an introduction to creeking adventure and we had to be ready to execute and put our boats into exact spots on the river. After spending the usual time trying to organize cars and people to get them to the river we arrived at the put in.

We took our big boats to the NRG to simulate a race-paddle for the upcoming Captain Thurmond race. The river at 0.1 ft had plenty of flat water between the rapids.
June 13th USNWC Creek Boat Smackdown
Posting a trip on the website is an awesome way to meet paddlers. If the trip is a itch more difficult than it gets a little interesting. I got lucky. The folks that met me for the Creek Boat Smackdown at the USNWC had plenty of game.
John and Rachel Rea along with Todd and his significant other Bethany were awesome folks to meet and paddle with. I got my first couple of laps in by 11am and paddled over to the upper pond to meet my new friends from Atlanta.

The Nantahala River was definitely the place to be this past Saturday as a small contingent of CCC paddlers met to enjoy a day on the river and participate in the first round of the 2011 Canoe Club Challenge slalom event.

Having failed gauges 101 class, and having had to cancell the Tuckaseegee West Fork trip, I decided to plan a New River Gorge Trip. We had four paddlers sign up, the same people that were interested in the prior trip.
14th annual First Saturday in June Nolichucky trip
this trip was run jointly with the Foothills Paddling Club in Greenville SC…The level was 700 cfs, which may have depressed the turnout for the trip. The weather was hot and sunny, the water clear and a perfect temperature for swimming and cooling off.
Nine paddlers made the run, including 3 1/2 first timers. Participants included David Blumberg, Merridee Harper, Steve Getz, David Williams, Joe Owensby, Steve Yost, John MacDonald, Rick Steeves, and Cat Thrash.
