Pre Frostbite Paddle – Lower Nantahala
River: | Nantahala |
Skill: | Novice |
Trip Date: | 11/03/2018 |
Four boaters Cyndy Rentz Falgout (from Durham), Scott Cole (From Birmingham, AL) Tom “Week of Rivers Chair” Womble (from Bryson City and I (from Chapel Hill) set forth on Saturday, November 3, from Ferebe’s to the Falls. It was Tom’s and mine first time paddling with Cyndy and Scott.
It was a glorious day on the Nantahala. There was nothing Frostbite “Pre” or otherwise about it. It was a bright sunny day without a cloud in the sky and temperature close to 60?. The foliage was a little past peak but it still made for gorgeous scenery. During lulls between rapids one just had to look up and marvel as the sun highlighted the trees. .
We did not see anyone else on the river until the very end at the Falls when we saw a total of 3 boaters. This was a new experience for me paddling this late in the season and not having to dodge rafts and duckies.
We stopped to scout the Falls and as I was getting back into my boat, Dennis Lyons, one of my main crew, was driving by, saw my signature orange tape on the back of my helmet, and stopped to say hi. It was good catching up with him.
Everyone had a great day that ended with smiles all around. Personally, it was great paddling again with Tom and meeting Cyndy and Scot.
Regards and SYOTR,
Eliot
